Delightful Desert Days in Garmeh – We like Iran!

No trip to Iran would be total without venturing off into the desert! After costs 2 nights in the holy City of Mashhad, we were on an overnight bus bound for the desert village of Garmeh. The bus was nice, however considering that it’s technically wintertime right here in Iran (even though it’s 25 degrees during the day), the locals are cold. So, the warm was blaring out of the vents the whole night. Nick was sweating, I failed to remember to take my movement sickness pill as well as trying to sleep while keeping my headscarf on verified to be rather the challenge.

The bus was spacious as well as comfy, however the warm as well as trying to keep my headscarf on were guaranteed downsides
Besides all of that, the bus trip was good. We shown up at a roundabout in the middle of nowhere at 5am as well as called our guesthouse in the desert. They sent a vehicle to pick us up from the little village of Khur as well as we shown up in Garmeh 30 minutes later.

Waiting in the dark for somebody to pick us up

Even though it was still rather dark when we arrived, we understood we would like it there. silhouettes of date palms surrounded the 1500 year old, mud brick village as well as goats as well as camels were ideal outside of our guesthouse.

The Lonely world states this about Garmeh:

“Population 250, plus 20 goats as well as 2 camels”

Sounds fantastic to us!

Our guesthouse in Garmeh, total with camels as well as goats!
We opened the door to our standard space as well as descended down a little flight of stairs to our bed as well as immediately passed out. We awoke to what appeared like a totally different guesthouse in the light of day. two Belgium guys, a Spanish couple with their infant as well as the Iranian household who has the location were all chatting as well as enjoying breakfast.

Our generally styled space in Garmeh
The 300 year old house was stunning as well as made totally out of mud as well as bricks. The communal area had high ceilings, charming Persian carpets, a fireplace as well as eating area. Wandering down narrow, low ceiling hallways brought us to the bathroom, which was clean as well as surprisingly modern!

The whole outside area was gorgeous as well. in front of the house was a little pen, which housed the 2 camels as well as 20 goats that online in the village. ideal next to our guesthouse was a crumbling fort, a mosque as well as tons of date palms. Mountains towered in the distance which produced the best background.

Fresh dates are discovered all around the property
We spent the very first day with the Spanish couple as well as their 15 month old son. The 5 of us hopped in a vehicle as well as set off to see the salt flats of Garmeh – most likely not almost as excellent as the ones in Bolivia, however considering that we haven’t seen those yet, we believed it was quite cool.

Alongside the dried up salt lake, there was a small, salty, extremely out-of-place river. The turquoise coloured water flowed over the pure white salt. It was gorgeous.

Later that evening, the 5 of us hopped in the vehicle once again as well as were driven with some sensational scenery to the sand dunes. Although they weren’t as excellent as the dunes in the Gobi Desert, Mongolia, they were still the best vantage point to enjoy the sun set. A herd of about 25 camels completed our desert day by strolling by ideal as the sun was setting.

That evening we were fortunate sufficient to experience the owner, Maxiar’s, musical abilities. all of us sat around as well as were hypnotized by his “pot playing”. It was the most unusual as well as incredible type of music we’ve ever heard. He has extremely old clay pots (sort of like vases) as well as by banging his hands over the tops as well as sides as well as even lifting the pots up as well as banging them against the floor, he produces his own, original music!

It was a fantastic end to a best day in the desert, however we weren’t completed with Garmeh yet, we still had one a lot more day left. The complying with morning Nick as well as I made a decision to hike up one of the huge mountains that surrounded the village. Although there wasn’t any type of kind of path as well as the rocks kept breaking off as we stepped on them, we made it to the top in one piece.

The views from the top of the mountain were great!

The views looking over the bit oasis in the desert were fantastic.

After descending the mountain, we made our method over to a bit spring which, surprisingly was full of little fish. We stuck our feet in the water as well as had a bit fish massage/pedicure, just like we had years before in Malaysia. We satisfied two modern, young couples at the spring as well as after moments, were invited to find as well as stay with them when we’re in Esfahan – gotta like Iran!

Here fishy, fishy! having a fish pedicure

We thoroughly took pleasure in our stay in the bit desert village of Garmeh. The homemade food was so great (we ate camel meat for the very first time), we were provided tons of fresh pomegranates as well as dates from the garden, the household as well as buddies who run the location were truly kind, the desert vibe was chilled out as well as tranquil as well as of course, the on-site goats as well as camels were an added bonus!

One of the lots of tasty meals we had, camel patties, salad, bread, rice, yogurt as well as veggies

After two full days amongst the persuading palm trees as well as silence, we were on a bus to the mud-brick village of Yazd.
